How it's rated
Ratings are based on the client's subjective report of the previous 48 hours together with your observation during the interview; where the two conflict, clinical observation is weighted more heavily. Nine items are scored 0–4 and four items (irritability, speech, content, disruptive/aggressive behaviour) are double-weighted 0–8, to offset poor cooperation in severely unwell clients. Total range 0–60. The scale measures severity and change over time — it is not a diagnostic instrument.
